LE PETIT CHATEAU PRADIAS SURROUNDINGS
Surroundings
The house is on the outskirts of the village of Loures-Barousse, on an area of 2800 square meters. The center of the village, around the church, is a few hundred meters from the house. Here you will find the pharmacy, a hairdresser, two bakers and a bar, with the local market every Friday morning. The Baroussenaren are proud of their cheese: Le Barousse! a delicious, spicy cheese made from sheep's or cow's milk (or a mix). Originally from Sost, a nearby mountain village.
Of course available every Friday morning at the market in Loures-Barousse, just like other fresh vegetables, fruit, sausage and bread from local producers.
The market takes place 150 meters from the house, in front of the picturesque church, which indicates the time (twice) every hour.
Further on in the village a pizzeria, restaurant, hairdressers, a bank and flower shop. Even further you will come to the supermarket (Shopi) and the post office. Opposite this is also a small bookstore where you can have a Dutch newspaper delivered within 2 days. There is also an Office du Tourisme in Loures-Barousse and a bar. Everything within walking distance.
There is a train station in the village where a train stops twice a day.
A few kilometers to the south are Montrejeau and St. Gaudens, each with a train station. Loures-Barousse itself is situated on the Garonne river, with its sister village Barbazan on the other side of this river. Two quiet places with regional significance at the start of the Val d'Aran, the valley of butterflies, formed by Spain's Ríu Girona (Garonne).
There are beautiful walks through the immediate surroundings, for example to the picturesque artists' village of Saint Bertrand de Comminges, or walking in nature along one of the many tributaries of the Garonne, towards the 'land of the bears' (Pays de l'ours ). You can reach the world-famous Lourdes or the metropolis of Toulouse within an hour by car. Nearby are Saint Gaudens, Montrejeau and Lannemezan, larger places where, in addition to modern stores, you will also find weekly markets, second-hand stores (Emaus) and antique dealers. Closer by is good swimming in one of the mountain lakes (Loures-Barousse, Barbazan, Montrejéau), and in winter the ski slopes of Nistos, Suberbagnières de Luchon or Le Mourtis can be reached within half an hour by car.
The “Pic du Midi”, highest point of the French Pyrenees (2,877 m), just 85 km from Loures-Barousse is also worth a visit (Pic du Midi).
